Tourmaline comes in more shades than almost any other mineral. The name itself comes from the Sinhalese word turmali, used by Sri Lankan gem traders for centuries to describe the mixed-colour stones they pulled from the ground. No two stones were alike. No two colours were the same.

Dutch merchants in the 18th century made a curious discovery: when you warmed tourmaline in your hand and held it near a pipe, the beads would attract the ash. They named it aschentrekker. The ash-drawer. A stone that pulls things toward it. Scientists would later learn it was the stone’s own electrical charge, released by heat. But the image stayed: a stone that draws what has been scattered back together.

This pair wears like a quiet statement. One large 3A tourmaline bead, wire-wrapped by hand in 18k Gold Plated wire, sits against the lobe. Below it, six smaller beads hang loose in a cluster, each one a slightly different shade, each picked from the same stone. From a distance it reads as one earring. Up close, it reveals itself as seven.
